Siddu Jonnalagadda’s ‘Telusu Kada’ Movie Review

Cinemag_masti (Movie Review):  After delivering back-to-back hits with ‘DJ Tillu’ and ‘Tillu Square’, Siddu Jonnalagadda was disappointed by the result of his film ‘Jack’. Taking a cautious approach, he then starred in the movie ‘Telusu Kada’. The film marks the directorial debut of Neeraja Kona and is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and his daughter Krithi.

The Story:

Varun (Siddu Jonnalagadda) is an orphan whose childhood friend is Abhi (Viva Harsha). The two grow up together. Since childhood, Siddu dreams of having a family of his own. After a breakup that happens without his direct involvement, Varun dutifully marries Anjali (Raashii Khanna). A few months after the wedding, Varun and Anjali discover that Anjali cannot have children. They decide to opt for surrogacy. Dr. Raga Kumar (Sreenidhi Shetty) steps forward, offering to be the surrogate mother for Varun and Anjali’s baby. Does Varun agree? Did Varun and Raga know each other previously? Why did they hide their past connection from Anjali? What are the consequences of their secret? That forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

There is no shortage of love triangles in cinema, with many such films releasing every year. While this is a similar romantic comedy, the core subject is somewhat different. More than a love triangle, the story is based on the strange events that occur in a young man’s life after marriage, specifically when his ex-girlfriend enters their lives as a surrogate mother.

Neeraja Kona wrote this story revolving around the premise of the complications that arise when an ex-girlfriend enters a newlywed couple’s life as a surrogate mother. While the first half is engaging, the film’s pace slows down significantly after Varun reveals the truth in the second half. From that point until the climax, the narrative revolves entirely around a ‘love and hate’ relationship. While each of the three main characters believes their decision is correct, the audience in the theatre won’t be able to side with any one of them. The entire film revolving around just four main characters can become monotonous. In the second half, Director Neeraja Kona tried to drive the movie with dialogues, sidelining the dramatic elements. The film proceeds with superficial scenes in places that required intense emotional depth.

Performances:

Sreenidhi Shetty performed well as the care-free girl who wants to chill in life. Raashii Khanna’s character is dignified, but there was a noticeable lack in her expression of the twists and turns in the second half. Viva Harsha provided some relief as the hero’s friend, and his character brought some much-needed entertainment to the film. The remaining three or four characters are fleeting and lack significance.
